Center for Health Economics

Center for Health Economics to conduct theoretical and applied research on health care, to carry out domestic and international academic and information exchanges with governments, institutes and universities, as well as to provide consulting service for the promotion of decision-making in health care and the advancement of health care management reform and rationalization.

The Center for Health Economics lays stress on the following three research fields:

1. Economic evaluation of health care service policies
Health care service policies embrace research on money raising, payment, supply and demand, etc., majorly including urban and rural medicare funds raising and management policies, medicare service policies for the poor, etc. The research on medicare payment policies mainly involves manufacturing structure of suppliers, service quality and efficiency, as well as specific demands for various services.

2. Economic analysis of health-related behaviors
Health of human beings is related to the environment, individual habits and behaviors (e.g. smoking), which in turn are closely interrelated to economic policies. Thus the economic analysis of such behaviors can provide direct guidance for government to formulate intervention policies. Besides, the relationship between health care investment and economic development also merits serious consideration in public finance.

3. Economic evaluation of health care service, medicine and technology
Policy-making of health care service is largely based on the cost-benefit assessment of new medicare service mode, medicine, and technology with limited resources. At different economic levels, the major goal of government for resource allocation is to employ the medicare service mode, medicine and technology with more favorable cost-benefit.
