During Sep.10 to Sep. 11 2016, The 2nd SUFE Economic History Workshop- "Institutions, Ideas, and Social Organizations: Exploring New Approaches to Chinese Economic History" Held at SOE. The conference is sponsored by the School of Economics at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE).

President of SUFE, Professor Liming Fan, President of Chinese Economic History Society, Research Fellow Mingkong Wei, Director of Department of Economic History, Professor Lin Cheng presented the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony is hosted by the SOE Party Secretary Fang Wang.

This year's workshop is themed by "Institutions, Ideas, and Social Organizations: Exploring New Approaches to Chinese Economic History". The workshop attracted numerous renowned scholars including Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Avner Greif from the Economics Department of Stanford University. Professor Matthew Sommer from Stanford University, Professor David Faure from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Zhiwu Chen from Yale University, the co-director of the department of Economic History of SOE, Professor Debin Ma from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and more than 60 scholars from University of Colorado Boulder, The University of Queensland, The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, Huazhong Normal University, Fujian Normal University, as well as Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The workshop is composes by four sessions, the themes of which are the comparison between China and western countries on social network, merchant organization, the flow of social classes, and enterprise order and economic development respectively. The participants of the workshop benefit a lot from the high level speeches and comments at the workshop.

The series of workshops is an integral part of the school's constant efforts in high-end academic exchange and quality research through various academic activities, such as seminars, workshops, lectures, forums, and conferences. This year's workshop fully shows the achievement made by the discipline of Economic History at SUFE, playing an important role in promoting the international academic communication of the Economic History circle.
